air pressure regulator is a mechanical device used in pneumatic systems to reduce a high, variable input air pressure from a compressor or supply line to a lower, constant, and usable output pressure for downstream equipment.
Its primary functions are:
-
Pressure Reduction: Lowering the high-pressure supply to the specific, safe operating pressure required by tools, cylinders, or machinery.
-
Pressure Stabilization/Pulsation Suppression: Maintaining a steady output pressure despite fluctuations in the incoming supply pressure (due to compressor cycling) or changes in the downstream flow demand (as tools are turned on and off). This protects equipment and ensures consistent performance.
🛠️ How an Air Pressure Regulator Works
Most air regulators operate on a force-balance principle using a spring and a diaphragm or piston.
-
Setting the Pressure: The user turns an adjustment knob (or T-handle), which compresses a main spring (or reference spring). The force exerted by this spring sets the desired outlet pressure.
-
Air Inlet: High-pressure air enters the regulator and passes through a valve assembly (often a poppet valve).
-
Sensing and Regulation: The regulated, low-pressure air acts on the bottom side of a flexible diaphragm (the sensing element).
-
The force from the main spring (trying to open the valve) and the force from the outlet pressure acting on the diaphragm (trying to close the valve) are balanced.
-
If the outlet pressure drops (e.g., a tool is used), the spring force overcomes the air pressure force, pushing the diaphragm down. This opens the valve further, allowing more air flow until the pressure returns to the set point.
-
If the outlet pressure rises (e.g., the tool is turned off), the air pressure force pushes the diaphragm up against the spring. This partially or completely closes the valve, restricting flow and reducing the pressure back to the set point.

Here is a detailed breakdown of its key specifications:
⚙️ Norgren 11-002-061-2A Precision Regulator
| Specification | Details |
| Product Type | Precision Pneumatic Pressure Regulator |
| Function | Reduces and precisely maintains a set outlet pressure, regardless of fluctuations in the inlet pressure. |
| Port Size | 1/2 inch (1/2" PTF) |
| Maximum Inlet Pressure | 28 bar (approx. 406 psi) |
| Outlet Pressure Adjustment Range | 0.3 to 8.5 bar (approx. 4 to 125 psi) |
| Flow Rate | High flow, around 123 dm³/sec (or 260 scfm) |
| Adjustment Type | T-bar (or adjustable knob) |
